Head Barista

About the role

Norma's Deli, located in the heart of Manly, serves breakfast and lunch to locals and visitors. It is looking for an experienced Head Barista to lead its coffee program and barista team. You will own the quality and consistency of every cup, keep the coffee station running smoothly through busy service and train a team that cares about coffee as much as you do, working closely with the front-of-house and kitchen teams.

Key responsibilities

• Produce consistently high-quality coffee and drinks to the deli's standards, dialling in espresso daily and adjusting throughout the day
• Set and maintain drink recipes, milk standards and presentation, and keep service fast and efficient during peak periods
• Give guests friendly service, coffee knowledge and recommendations, and work with FOH and kitchen teams so orders go out on time
• Lead, support and motivate the barista team on every shift, and train new and existing baristas in extraction, milk texturing, latte art and workflow
• Give regular feedback and hold the team to quality and service standards, helping managers with rostering and onboarding
• Order and manage coffee, milk, alternative milks and bar supplies, rotate stock and keep wastage low
• Maintain a good relationship with the coffee roaster and suppliers, and keep the espresso machine, grinders and coffee station clean and well presented

Required profile

• At least 3 years' barista experience in a busy, quality-focused café or venue
• Experience leading or training a barista team
• Ability to stay calm, fast and consistent under pressure, with a warm, guest-focused approach to service
• An NSW Food Safety Supervisor (FSS) certificate is highly regarded
