Groundsperson - St Joseph's Parish School, Weipa

About the role

St Joseph's Parish School in Weipa is looking for a Groundsperson to look after the school grounds. The position starts in Term 1, 2027, is full-time term time (about 30 hours per week) and is paid $34.17 to $35.62 gross per hour. Applications close on 3pm Tuesday 10 November 2026 unless the vacancy is filled earlier.

Key responsibilities

• Keep the school grounds tidy and well maintained
• Carry out chemical spraying, which requires a current ChemCert licence
• Keep school maintenance records and carry out basic facility maintenance
• Maintain plants, gardens and school vehicles
• Operate and service turf machinery such as mowers, line trimmers and rotary hoes
• Know irrigation systems and be able to maintain them
• Monitor compliance tasks, liaise with the WHS manager, coordinate contractors and perform inspections, including weekend work

Required profile

• A Working with Children Blue Card
• Full support for the ethos of Catholic Education
• Commitment to creating and maintaining a child-safe organisation

Required skills

• Current ChemCert licence for chemical spraying
• Experience with turf machinery and irrigation systems
