Groundsman / Apprentice – Bowral Golf Club

About the role

Bowral Golf Club, a historic 18-hole course established in 1901 in the Southern Highlands of NSW, is looking for a reliable, enthusiastic person to join its course maintenance team. The position suits either a Groundsman appointment or someone wishing to undertake a formal apprenticeship in sports turf management; the pathway is discussed with applicants during recruitment. No formal turf qualification is required.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain the course: mowing, edging, weeding and general grounds maintenance.
• Prepare for play: rake bunkers, repair divots and help with daily course presentation.
• Learn practical skills: operate machinery and equipment once trained and authorised.
• Assist with course improvements such as turf renovations, planting, drainage and irrigation.
• Clean tools and machinery, complete basic checks and keep work areas tidy.
• Follow safety instructions and look out for colleagues, golfers and the environment.

Required profile

• Reliable, punctual and ready to learn; enjoys active outdoor work in varying weather.
• Follows instructions, works well with others and is courteous to members and visitors.
• Comfortable with early starts and rostered weekend duties.
• Golf knowledge and previous turf experience are not essential; a passion for golf is desirable.
• Previous gardening, landscaping or grounds maintenance experience is helpful; a driver's licence is also helpful but not essential.
• Apprentices must commit to formal training and the associated coursework.
