Senior Cultural Heritage Officer (2 Roles)

About the role

Randstad is recruiting, on behalf of its client the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) North Coast Region, two experienced Senior Cultural Heritage Officers for 2-year internal contractor positions. Embedded in the Program Delivery & Operations team under the Infrastructure Management and Delivery Division, the officers help plan, deliver and protect transport infrastructure across Queensland, balancing fieldwork with strategic advisory work.

Key responsibilities

• Act as Senior Cultural Heritage lead across multiple project delivery teams, advising on planning, design, construction and maintenance
• Maintain trusted relationships with stakeholders, especially Traditional Owner groups and native title representative bodies
• Ensure compliance with state and federal heritage legislation, statutory duty of care and departmental environmental policies
• Conduct assessments, author heritage management plans, cultural heritage agreements, due diligence assessments and regional reports
• Coordinate and take part in field surveys, monitoring, archaeological investigations and regional audits
• Collaborate with the wider Environment & Cultural Heritage team

Required profile

• Degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, Cultural Heritage Management or a closely related discipline
• Current valid Class C driver's licence
• Valid General Construction Induction Card (White Card) or ability to obtain one
• Willingness to undergo a pre-employment criminal history check
• Experience in cultural heritage management at strategic and project-delivery levels, including assessments, management plans and agreements
• Strong communication skills and proven work with Traditional Owner groups
• Willingness and physical capability for regional travel and field inspections

Advantageous: experience in civil infrastructure, road or major engineering projects, and membership of professional bodies such as the Australian Archaeological Association or Australia ICOMOS.
