Greek-Speaking Social Visitor - Residential Aged Care

About the role

A friendly gentleman living in a residential aged care home in Hurstville wants to spend time with a Greek-speaking volunteer who can share conversation, companionship and connection. Having grown up in Greece and moved to Australia in his 20s, he has lived a rich and interesting life. Dementia has made communication in English harder, but he remains warm and good-natured and enjoys hearing his first language spoken. This is a weekly or fortnightly social visiting role.

Key responsibilities

• Take a walk around the neighbourhood
• Play simple games together
• Share stories and conversation in Greek
• Offer friendship and companionship

Required profile

• 18 years or older
• National Volunteer Police Check arranged and paid for by HammondCare
• Patient, confident and compassionate, understanding that meaningful connection takes many forms, especially for someone living with dementia

Schedule and flexibility

• Weekly or fortnightly visits, any day of the week, Monday to Sunday
• Between 10:00am and 4:00pm
• Flexible scheduling to suit the volunteer and their new friend
