General Practitioner - Mental Health Division

About the role

The Mental Health Division of the East Metropolitan Health Service (EMHS) is recruiting a General Practitioner for its community mental health services, based at Bentley Health Service, City East and Midland. The appointment is permanent part-time, with 12 sessions (48 hours) per fortnight available across the three community services, with sessional allocations negotiated with successful applicants. Job share arrangements may be considered.

Key responsibilities

• Provide holistic, best-practice medical care and advice to clients as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
• Provide physical health care to patients referred by community mental health teams, including physical health monitoring, metabolic screening and participation in national or statewide public health screening programs.
• Refer patients to specialists according to their needs.
• Work with the Head of Department and other consultants to achieve national, State and EMHS performance standards and targets.
• Work within the Scope of Clinical Practice as defined by the EMHS Area Medical Credentialing Committee.

Required profile

• Valid working visa (for fixed-term appointments) or Australian citizenship, permanent residency or an indefinite visa to live and work in Australia (for permanent appointments).
• Applicants must undergo criminal records screening and integrity checking, and possibly a working with children check and a pre-employment health assessment.
