Financial Controller

About the role

Hall & Wilcox is seeking an experienced senior finance professional to join as a national Financial Controller. The role is based in Melbourne (with consideration for Sydney candidates) and reports to the Director of Finance.

Key responsibilities

• Lead budgeting, forecasting and long‑term financial planning across business units.
• Oversee preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports and maintain financial control frameworks.
• Ensure compliance with statutory obligations, coordinate external audits and manage internal audit readiness.
• Manage cash flow, treasury operations and banking relationships for all firm entities.
• Drive finance process improvement, automation and system integration initiatives.
• Lead and develop the finance team, fostering a culture of financial discipline and innovation.
• Act as the primary finance contact for internal stakeholders, presenting insights to senior leadership and board.

Required profile

• CA or CPA qualification (essential) with strong knowledge of Australian accounting, tax and statutory requirements.
• At least seven years of senior finance leadership experience in a large, complex organisation, preferably professional services.
• Proven ability to provide commercial insights and influence business performance.
• Experience leading high‑performing teams and managing multi‑entity finance functions.

Required skills

• Advanced Microsoft Excel and robust financial modelling capabilities.
• Finance systems implementation and automation experience, including AI tools.
• Multi‑entity, M&A integration or finance systems implementation experience (advantageous).
