Financial Accountant

About the role

Thiess is seeking an experienced Financial Accountant to join its West Perth corporate office. You will provide accurate financial and accounting support to West Australian operations, handling month‑end reporting, statutory obligations and project delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and support timely completion of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting, including period‑end close processes.
• Prepare bank and balance‑sheet reconciliations, general ledger journal entries and address key balance‑sheet risk areas.
• Analyse profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow reports with detailed variance analysis against budgets and forecasts.
• Assist with monthly project claims, internal charges and end‑of‑month cost analysis.
• Support preparation of statutory accounts and provide information for internal and external audits.
• Prepare tax calculations and supporting schedules, including BAS and assistance with FBT requirements.
• Maintain accurate financial records, internal controls and ensure compliance with reporting timelines.
• Provide financial accounting support to operational and project teams, responding to ad‑hoc queries.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of financial processes, controls and reporting practices.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in financial accounting and accounts payable/receivable.
• CPA or CA qualification.
• Demonstrated experience in month‑end accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations, variance analysis and general ledger functions.
• Strong understanding of financial controls, statutory reporting and tax requirements.
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to meeting reporting deadlines.
• Well‑developed written and verbal communication skills.

Required skills

• Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel.
