Family Civil Law Solicitor - Mount Isa

About the role

ATSILS QLD LTD, a not-for-profit organisation providing legal services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across Queensland since 1972, is recruiting an experienced Family/Civil Law Legal Practitioner for its Mount Isa office. The role suits someone with a strong interest in social justice, working in a supportive and collaborative environment.

Key responsibilities

• Engage directly with clients daily and develop advocacy skills within a busy team.
• Handle casework on Child Protection and Domestic Violence applications, as well as civil litigation matters such as anti-discrimination, estates and consumer protection.
• Manage your own workflow with autonomy, without the pressure of billable hours.
• Opportunity for experienced practitioners to specialise as an Independent Children's Lawyer and Separate Representative, with support for required events and ongoing practice.

Required profile

• Admitted as a Legal Practitioner in Queensland, or holding (or eligible for immediate acquisition of) a current Practising Certificate and admission as a Legal Practitioner or Barrister of the Supreme Court of Queensland and the High Court of Australia.
• Holder (or eligible for immediate application) of a current Queensland Government Blue Card before starting.
• Ideally at least two years of full-time experience, resilience with complex cases including domestic violence and child protection, and ability to develop culturally competent service skills.
