Family and Community Support Worker (Lowood)

About the role

Mercy Family Support Service is seeking an experienced and passionate Family and Community Support Worker for a permanent part-time position in Lowood. The role supports the Lowood Early Years Service and Services Australia, and is aimed at someone returning to the workforce or studying, looking for a varied, community-driven position.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver group work, educational and support activities and programs for parents and children, including playgroups
• Provide support and intervention to families of children and young people in line with their family plan
• Support clients' life and personal skill development
• Provide in-person support as a Services Australia Agent

Required profile

• Relevant qualification (certificate or higher)
• Demonstrated experience working with children and/or vulnerable families
• Sound knowledge of the Queensland Child Protection system
• Queensland Provisional Green or above driver's licence
• Ability to obtain a positive personal history check
• Current whooping cough vaccination or willingness to obtain it before starting

Desirable

• Previous strengths-based casework with complex families
• Broad knowledge of safe parenting practices and child health
• Community development and adult education/training experience
• Understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures
