Experienced Mechanical Engineer – Rail & Metro

About the role

Join SMEC, a global engineering consultancy, as an Experienced Mechanical Engineer focusing on rail and metro projects in Brisbane. You will expand your building‑services background into major rail infrastructure, working in a hybrid model that balances on‑site collaboration with flexible remote time.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver HVAC services for a range of rail projects.
• Produce engineering drawings, reports, specifications and tender packages from concept through construction.
• Conduct feasibility studies, load calculations and site inspections.
• Review mechanical designs to ensure compliance with technical standards and client requirements.
• Prepare engineering reports and support tender proposals.
• Collaborate proactively with multidisciplinary team members and stakeholders to maintain quality and timeliness of deliverables.

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• 3‑5 years of mechanical engineering experience in a building‑services design consultancy.
• Experience preparing detailed mechanical services design documentation for rail, infrastructure, mixed‑use or commercial projects.
• Strong understanding of Australian codes and standards.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
