Equipment Operator – Heavy Machinery (FIFO/DIDO)

About the role

Aurizon is supporting BHP’s copper operations in South Australia and is looking for an Equipment Operator at Olympic Dam. The role works on a 7‑days‑on / 7‑days‑off FIFO/DIDO roster, operating heavy machinery to move freight safely and efficiently across the terminal network.

Key responsibilities

• Operate a range of equipment including reach stackers, forklifts (10 t), front‑end loaders, lidlifters, scissor lifts and boom lifts.
• Manage container and freight movements in line with daily operational plans.
• Carry out basic equipment inspections and maintain accurate, compliant documentation.
• Support terminal coordination through marshalling tasks and transport system updates.
• Induct customers and contractors according to site safety protocols.
• Promote a positive safety culture and contribute to a high‑performance team.

Required profile

• Reliable, safety‑conscious individual with a strong work ethic and team mindset.
• Possession of relevant licences/tickets (forklift 10 t, front‑end loader, lidlifter, reach stacker, stand‑alone rotator, HR truck licence, elevated work platform, working at heights) – training may be provided for the right candidate.
• Proactive and adaptable attitude with good communication skills.
• Willingness to work day, night, weekend and public‑holiday shifts on a rotating roster.
• Ability to meet pre‑employment requirements (national police check, references, medical assessment).
