Environmental Field Technician (FIFO)

About the role

Hancock Iron Ore is looking for an Environmental Field Technician to join its Environment team at the Roy Hill mine on an 8 days on, 6 days off FIFO roster from Perth. Reporting to the Supervisor Environment - Mine, the role covers environmental monitoring and support of progressive rehabilitation, and is a hands-on field position.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out environmental monitoring and sampling of groundwater, surface water, wastewater and other mine-site locations according to schedules and work instructions.
• Label, record and prepare samples for laboratory testing, and help with environmental data management and interpretation.
• Maintain monitoring equipment, consumables and vehicles so they are ready for safe field work.
• Conduct rehabilitation photo monitoring, inspections and weed surveys across the mine, rail and port areas, including minor maintenance.
• Support progressive rehabilitation through topsoil and rock armour inspections, seed-store checks, seed batching and seeding, including drone seeding.
• Assist with rehabilitation permits, contractor works, feral animal control and environmental incident response.

Required profile

• Experience in an environmental field technician or similar role, preferably on a mine site.
• Proficiency in water sampling, including groundwater bores, surface water, tailings facilities and waste rock dumps.
• Current Australian C class manual driver's licence, 4WD certification and First Aid qualification.
• A science degree is desirable.
• Must be legally permitted to work permanently in Australia; agencies are not invited to submit candidates.

Required skills

• Working knowledge of sampling methods and EnviroSys.
• Familiarity with weed control, GPS and GIS.
