Environmental Approvals Lead

About the role

Aurecon’s Western Australian Environment and Planning team is seeking an Environmental Approvals Lead to support a diverse portfolio of energy, resources, transport, land and water projects. You will guide clients through complex Commonwealth and Western Australian environmental legislation, ensuring approvals are obtained efficiently and responsibly.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare referrals, approval documents, licence applications and permits under EPBC Act, WA Environmental Protection Act and Mining Act.
• Contribute to fee proposals and tender submissions, assess technical documentation, lead multidisciplinary project teams and manage sub‑consultants.
• Maintain client relationships, identify business development opportunities and provide advice across Energy, Resources, Infrastructure and Land Development sectors.
• Provide technical direction and oversight for all environmental approvals activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or a related field.
• Proven experience coordinating permits, licences and approvals, including EPBC Act, WA Environmental Protection Act (Part IV & V) and Mining Act WA 1978.
• Background in environmental impact assessment and environmental management.
• Project management or consulting experience with strong financial delivery acumen.
• Demonstrated ability to liaise with internal teams, external stakeholders and government officials.
• Technical leadership, mentoring and a solid understanding of mining, energy or industrial projects.
