Engineering Manager - Fremantle Port

About the role

Fremantle Port is seeking an experienced Engineering and Maintenance Manager to join its management team and work closely with the Terminal Manager. The role covers the repair and maintenance of critical terminal equipment and facilities, and collaboration with the National Engineering team on the strategic direction of major assets. It suits someone with a tertiary qualification in mechanical and/or electrical engineering and a track record in engineering and maintenance management within the heavy industrial sector.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure the maintenance department follows the organisation's OH&S policies and procedures and identify improvements to the safety culture.
• Mentor and develop people within heavy industrial maintenance operations.
• Implement systems and procedures for managing internal and external maintenance contractors.
• Improve preventive maintenance systems and processes, and lead initiatives to raise planned maintenance levels.
• Manage assets in line with statutory and OEM requirements, and integrate new assets with existing ones.
• Manage maintenance projects and work order backlogs to protect terminal operations.
• Develop systems to monitor maintenance expenditure, reliability, safety and plant integrity.
• Work with the National Engineering team to shape the strategy for major assets.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in engineering.
• Proven experience in a heavy engineering or industrial environment.
• Solid knowledge of OH&S policies and procedures.
• Eligibility to obtain an MSIC (Maritime Security Identification Card).
• Experience managing work teams in a unionised environment is beneficial.

Required skills

• Contract management knowledge.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CMMS (Computer Maintenance Management Systems).
• Negotiation, analytical, problem-solving and planning skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication, report writing and record keeping.
