Engineering Manager - AI Team

About the role

Nuix is building a new AI engineering team in Sydney with broad scope across Nuix Neo. The role has dual responsibility: owning Enrich, an established data-enrichment capability that finds, identifies and codifies information in unstructured documents (named-entity recognition, PII extraction, document-type identification, compound lexeme and skills analysis), and leading the team's new AI mandate, including building agentic capabilities. You lead the team end-to-end, including Sydney engineers and experienced engineers and data scientists in Ukraine and the US, and report to a dedicated Product Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, coach and grow a cross-timezone team (Australia, Ukraine, US): hiring, onboarding, career development, performance and day-to-day support.
• Own delivery: partner with product managers to plan, prioritise, manage risk and dependencies, and deliver predictable, quality software across on-prem and SaaS.
• Translate strategy into a sequenced roadmap with the Product Manager, giving engineering input on feasibility, effort and trade-offs for AI and agentic initiatives.
• Establish ways of working that make a globally distributed team effective, with healthy overlap between Sydney and remote members.
• Be accountable for engineering quality and security: code and vulnerability scan reports addressed continuously, secure-by-design practices upheld.
• Stay close enough to the technology to review designs, contribute to technical direction and support development, without being on the delivery critical path.

Required profile

• At least 10 years' experience in software engineering, with a strong hands-on foundation before moving into leadership.
• Proven engineering management experience, including leading geographically distributed, cross-timezone teams.
• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Experience delivering products across on-prem and SaaS/cloud (ideally Kubernetes-based) is desirable.

Required skills

• Tech credibility across a modern stack (Java, Python, React/TypeScript) to guide design, quality and code reviews.
• Strong delivery management, stakeholder communication and team culture building.
• AI/ML product team management experience is favourable; document-intelligence, NLP or data-enrichment familiarity is a plus.
