Electrical Engineer - Graphene Manufacturing Plant

About the role

A Brisbane manufacturer that produces its own graphene from natural gas using a proprietary process needs an electrical engineer to own the electrical systems running its production plant, R&D equipment and site, including high-power and electrically driven process equipment. The role is site-based and works closely with process, production, maintenance and R&D teams, as well as contractors and suppliers.

Key responsibilities

• Design, specify and review electrical systems, including power distribution, motor control and high-power equipment
• Prepare and check load, cable sizing, fault level and protection calculations
• Produce and maintain single-line diagrams, schematics and cable schedules
• Plan electrical capacity for production scale-up and new equipment
• Take electrical scope from concept through procurement, installation and commissioning
• Coordinate electrical contractors and hold them to the site's safety and quality standards
• Ensure compliance with AS/NZS 3000, hazardous area requirements and Queensland electrical safety legislation
• Support production and maintenance with fault-finding and root cause analysis

Required profile

• Degree in Electrical or Electrical and Electronic Engineering
• At least five years of experience in process plant, manufacturing, industrial or resources environments
• Hands-on installation, testing, commissioning and fault-finding experience
• Experience coordinating electrical contractors and suppliers

Required skills

• Electrical design across power distribution, motor control, protection and cable sizing
• Hazardous area experience (AS/NZS 60079, EEHA) is highly regarded
• Exposure to high-power or power electronic equipment such as microwave, RF, VSDs or industrial heating is valued
• PLC and controls experience, RPEQ registration or eligibility, and an electrical trade background are also valued
