Design Engineer - Heavy Mobile Earthmoving Equipment

About the role

Hitachi Construction Machinery Australia is looking for an experienced Design Engineer to join its Engineering team in Wacol, Brisbane. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the role delivers functional, safe and sustainable engineering solutions for mining customers. It is a permanent full-time position.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver engineering designs and modifications for heavy mobile earthmoving equipment.
• Produce detailed 3D models, engineering drawings and design documentation using CAD software.
• Perform static and fatigue hand calculations to validate designs.
• Carry out engineering analysis and support finite element analysis (FEA) to ensure product integrity and performance.
• Work with internal stakeholders to identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities.
• Ensure designs comply with engineering standards, safety requirements and quality expectations.
• Support product development, innovation initiatives and engineering investigations.
• Provide technical expertise and engineering support to operations, service teams and customers where needed.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering; CPEng and/or RPEQ accreditation highly regarded.
• Commitment to safety and a customer-focused mindset.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Japanese language skills viewed favourably.

Required skills

• Static and fatigue hand calculations.
• 3D CAD software, with SolidWorks experience highly regarded.
• Finite element analysis (FEA) tools.
• Experience with heavy mobile earthmoving equipment is highly advantageous.
