Ecologist / Senior Ecologist

About the role

ERM, a global sustainability consultancy, is looking for Ecologists and Senior Ecologists to join its Newcastle or Sydney team. The role supports biodiversity impact assessments and approvals under NSW State and Commonwealth jurisdictions, working on high-profile projects with experts in renewables, resources, government, planning and natural capital accounting.

Key responsibilities

• Support and deliver field surveys and desktop ecological assessments.
• Assist in preparing biodiversity assessments, offset strategies and management plans that meet federal and state requirements.
• Support multiple projects, ensuring quality deliverables and meeting deadlines.
• Engage with stakeholders such as subcontractors, regulatory agents, landowners, Indigenous communities and clients.
• Build collaborations across ERM's global network of sustainability experts.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Ecology or a related field.
• 1-2 years of environmental consulting experience (Ecologist) or 2-5 years (Senior Ecologist).
• Expertise in environmental assessments and biodiversity regulations; experience with the NSW Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 is highly regarded.
• Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel for fieldwork.

Required skills

• Flora and plant community type identification (advantageous).
• GIS proficiency (advanced skills a plus).
• Experience with biodiversity offsets and Federal/State survey methodologies.
• Strong commitment to health and safety protocols, and excellent communication, organisational and time-management skills.
