Drill Inspector - Heavy Mobile Equipment (FIFO)

About the role

Rio Tinto is recruiting a Heavy Maintenance Equipment Drill Inspector for the Asset Health Team at Yandicoogina, one of Australia's largest iron ore mines. The role is hands-on, giving ownership of the heavy mobile equipment fleet through regular inspections and repairs, and overseeing the two main floats and the smaller ancillary fleet. It is an 8 days on, 6 days off FIFO roster from Perth, Derby or Busselton.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct routine inspections of the mobile equipment fleet and report asset conditions to the Planning and Execution teams
• Maintain safety awareness and comply with company policies and procedures
• Contribute to continuous improvement projects that increase safety while reducing risk and cost
• Use SAP to record, assign and complete maintenance tasks to the right standard
• Work autonomously on new fleet and engage with planning teams to prioritise work and minimise downtime
• Schedule inspections with Mine Ops to reduce production impact, and ensure notifications are acted on promptly
• Perform minor repairs (under 10 minutes) or larger repairs when scheduling permits, and keep the forward log accurate and risk-based
• Help build a maintenance schedule that keeps equipment running safely and reliably between services

Required profile

• Heavy-Duty Fitter or Plant Mechanic trade qualification
• Comprehensive knowledge of heavy mobile equipment and solid history in surface mining
• Excellent diagnostic and fault-finding ability
• Australian C class manual driver's licence or higher
• High-risk licences: Elevated Work Platform (EWP) and Forklift

Required skills

• SAP maintenance systems or similar
• Heavy mobile equipment inspection and repair
