Disability Support Worker (Psychosocial Disability & Corrections)

About the role

Milestone Support Services supports people moving from difficult circumstances such as leaving hospital, a correctional facility or an unstable living situation, helping them take their first step toward a more stable life. It is looking for Disability Support Workers to join its team, working on psychosocial disability and corrections cases. The position is listed as permanent, permanent part-time or casual, based in Sydney, paid $37-$48 per hour.

Key responsibilities

• Mentor and support participants and junior staff
• Assist with rosters and day-to-day service delivery
• Facilitate community engagement and help people build independence
• Provide personal care, meal preparation and appointment support
• Help men and women transition positively back into the community

Required profile

• 2+ years' experience in disability, mental health or corrections
• Passion for working with psychosocial disability (schizophrenia, bipolar, PTSD, intellectual disability)
• Ability to provide support across all aspects of a participant's needs and to build strong rapport with participants and families
• Willingness to travel across the Sydney region and flexibility for shift work
• Understanding of professional boundaries, confidentiality, privacy and duty of care

Required skills

• Strong leadership and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication skills
• Current NDIS Worker Screening, police check, driver's licence and an insured vehicle
• Nurses, social workers and candidates with a valid WWCC are highly regarded
