Director of Junior School

About the role

St James College is seeking a Director of Junior School to lead Years 5‑6. The role combines strategic, educational and pastoral leadership to shape a vibrant, inclusive learning environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead teaching and learning, curriculum compliance and assessment for the Junior School.
• Integrate the Charter for Catholic Schools and Edmund Rice tradition into school life.
• Collaborate with the College Leadership Team and Middle Leaders on strategic priorities.
• Partner with Enrolments and Marketing to strengthen Junior School enrolments.
• Design and implement literacy and numeracy programmes, using data‑driven pedagogy.
• Oversee the Wellbeing Program and pastoral care for junior students.
• Mentor, coach and observe Junior School teachers, fostering professional growth.
• Work with the Director of Learning Enhancement, EALD Program Leader and Heads of Faculty to meet diverse learner needs.

Required profile

• Experienced educator with a proven record of classroom practice.
• Demonstrated leadership in literacy and numeracy initiatives.
• Commitment to Catholic values, inclusion and community building.
• Ability to analyse data and apply contemporary teaching research.
• Strong interpersonal skills for staff mentoring and stakeholder collaboration.
