Director of Engineering – Site Reliability

About the role

Join a world‑class Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team that supports Macquarie Banking and Financial Services. As Director of Engineering you will lead a high‑performing group of engineering managers and leads, shaping the reliability strategy for a digital bank that ships AI‑driven services handling real customer and payment workloads.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of Engineering Managers and technical leads, fostering a growth mindset.
• Participate in design reviews, pull requests, and cloud‑native architecture decisions.
• Own all SRE domains: observability, SLOs, release engineering, resiliency, and capacity management.
• Drive the adoption of AI and LLM‑backed tools for incident triage, telemetry analysis, and automated pull‑request generation.
• Collaborate across Macquarie engineering groups to define best practices, tooling, and measurement frameworks.
• Guide continuous improvement of development practices and maintain a high bar for quality.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience leading autonomous, high‑performing engineering teams.
• 10+ years of hands‑on software engineering and system design experience.
• Proven track record of shipping platforms, services, or developer tooling used by other teams.
• Strong communication skills and ability to influence technical direction across a large organization.

Required skills

• Java or Go (or comparable language) with production experience.
• Deep experience with cloud deployments and infrastructure‑as‑code.
• Modern development practices: CI/CD pipelines, automated testing.
• Reliability engineering expertise: SLOs, observability, resilience, capacity planning.
• Experience building or operating AI/LLM‑backed systems in production.
