Director, Government Affairs APAC

About the role

Mattel APAC is seeking a Director of Government Affairs to lead strategic government and public policy initiatives across the Asia‑Pacific region. Reporting to the global Government Affairs team within the Law Department, you will guide the company through legislative, regulatory and geopolitical developments that affect our business.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the Government Affairs lead for APAC, aligning regional activities with global strategy and collaborating with senior leadership and functional teams.
• Develop and execute country‑by‑country and regional Government Affairs strategies, identifying opportunities and mitigating risks.
• Build and maintain relationships with government officials, regulators, industry groups, and represent Mattel in external forums and policy discussions.
• Monitor legislative, regulatory and geopolitical trends (e.g., trade, product safety, labour, sustainability, privacy) and provide timely strategic advice.
• Lead responses to government consultations, industry submissions and regulatory enquiries, and support major business initiatives requiring policy input.
• Provide clear updates, insights and recommendations to APAC leadership and coordinate with global functional teams.

Required profile

• Proven leadership experience in government affairs, public policy or regulatory affairs, preferably at a senior level.
• Demonstrated ability to operate across multiple APAC markets and influence senior stakeholders.
• Strong analytical skills to assess complex policy issues and translate them into actionable business advice.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building capabilities with both internal and external partners.
