Designer – Roads & Highways

About the role

SMEC is seeking a motivated Designer – Roads & Highways to support transport infrastructure projects across Australia. The role offers the chance to work on complex road and highway designs, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and develop technical expertise in a supportive, flexible environment.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality road and highway design outputs that meet technical standards, client requirements, and SMEC quality expectations.
• Prepare drawings, 3D models, and technical documentation using 12d and AutoCAD as primary design platforms.
• Provide inputs to design reports, contribute to peer reviews, and ensure compliance with Austroads, client specifications, and HSEQ requirements.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to achieve coordinated, timely, and accurate project delivery.
• Support engineers and senior designers in developing practical, compliant, and cost‑effective solutions.

Required profile

• Motivated Designer with a strong interest in transport infrastructure.
• Enjoys problem‑solving, collaboration, and contributing to high‑quality engineering outcomes.
• Willing to build capability and technical expertise within a multidisciplinary environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency with 12d design software.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD.
• Knowledge of Austroads standards and client specifications.
