Design Manager - Defence

About the role

Beca's Advisory team is looking for senior Defence Design Management professionals to join its Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide, Canberra or Melbourne offices. The Design Manager ensures that the overall design intent and direction of Beca's design solutions for Defence Estate and Infrastructure projects is upheld throughout planning and delivery, and manages the design team, design-related and documentation activities, design subconsultants and specialist consultants in line with the design management plan and project objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the design team and coordinate design, documentation and reporting activities
• Act as a role model for the collaborative culture within and beyond the Design team
• Deliver technical coordination of design solutions across Defence's design phases
• Develop, implement and own Design Management Plans
• Ensure design deliverables meet end-user and functional requirements set out in the project brief
• Coordinate design inputs, programme, deliverables and communications, including value management and Safety in Design
• Develop and deliver a detailed Design Program with tasks and critical milestones

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in engineering, architecture or a related discipline
• Experience as a Design Manager in an engineering consultancy, managing multidisciplinary teams with a focus on the Defence Estate
• Australian citizenship and a current Baseline-level (or higher) Australian Government security clearance, or the ability to obtain one
• Attention to detail, strong communication skills and relationship-building abilities
• Positive, tenacious attitude and alignment with the company purpose
• Nice to have: professional membership and accreditation, experience leading winning bid submissions
