Deputy Director of Pharmacy (Clinical)

About the role

The Deputy Director of Pharmacy (Clinical) provides strategic and operational leadership for a portfolio of clinical pharmacy services at The Royal Melbourne Hospital. You will work closely with pharmacy and multidisciplinary leaders to ensure safe, high‑quality, patient‑centred care while driving innovation and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and oversee clinical pharmacy services across the hospital to deliver safe and effective patient care.
• Develop, implement and evaluate innovative models of clinical pharmacy care.
• Manage a large team of pharmacists across multiple clinical areas.
• Foster a culture of excellence, accountability, teamwork and continuous improvement.
• Lead workforce planning, recruitment, succession planning and professional development initiatives.
• Build strong partnerships with medical, nursing and allied health leaders to optimise care delivery.
• Support pharmacy research, education, training and quality‑improvement programs.
• Contribute to organisational strategic planning and health‑service transformation initiatives.

Required profile

• Registration as a Pharmacist with the Pharmacy Board of Australia (AHPRA).
• Minimum 8 years of hospital pharmacy experience, including leadership and management responsibilities.
• Proven success in leading clinical pharmacy services, workforce development and service‑improvement initiatives.
• Strong strategic thinking, change‑management and service‑development capabilities.
• Commitment to patient‑centred care, medication safety and quality improvement.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder‑engagement and influencing skills.
