Data Scientist - Claims Analytics & AI

About the role

A large government organisation in Brisbane is seeking an experienced Data Scientist to support a multi-year Data & Analytics Uplift Program. The role contributes to transforming claims management through analytics and AI, working across predictive modelling, document intelligence, natural language processing, GenAI initiatives and decision-support solutions. It is a 6-month contract with potential extensions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop analytical models, machine learning solutions and decision-support capabilities using structured and unstructured data.
• Identify patterns, trends and emerging risks to improve business outcomes.
• Build predictive models to forecast outcomes and support evidence-based decisions.
• Apply statistical, machine learning and NLP techniques to complex business challenges.
• Deliver AI/ML solutions through modern engineering and deployment practices.
• Partner with business stakeholders, subject matter experts and technical teams.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience applying machine learning to large, complex datasets.
• Strong statistical and predictive modelling capability, including classification and regression, clustering and segmentation, and model evaluation and validation.
• Experience delivering AI/ML solutions using CI/CD processes and monitoring them in production.
• Highly regarded: NLP and text analytics, regulated environments, and a tertiary qualification in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics or a related discipline.
