Data Governance Lead

About the role

Boeing Defence Australia (BDA) is looking for a Data Governance Lead within its Business Operations team in Brisbane. The role establishes and matures a BDA-wide data governance program, fostering a culture of data quality, efficiency and security, and manages the governance framework, forums and reporting. It is a permanent position.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the definition and refinement of BDA's data governance framework and establish, maintain and improve its policies, standards, procedures and frameworks.
• Integrate data governance with business and technical disciplines, including architecture.
• Engage data owners and data stewards across departments and run governance forums, workshops and training to build data governance literacy.
• Coordinate the data strategy implementation and advise on data risks, issues and escalated matters.
• Monitor progress, assess data maturity and capability uplift, and oversee reporting and continuous improvement.
• Promote the program to key stakeholders, including its priorities and benefits.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years' experience in data governance, data management, data quality or related roles.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science or a related field.
• Experience working with senior business, legal/compliance and IT audiences.
• Australian citizenship, as the role requires obtaining security clearance.

Required skills

• Understanding of metadata management, data lineage, data quality, master data management, data privacy and data lifecycle management.
• Experience with governance tools such as data catalogs, metadata repositories, data quality tools and MDM platforms, including defining tool requirements and vendor selection criteria.
• Ability to define governance metrics and KPIs, and to write policies, playbooks, training material and executive presentations.
