Data Engineer - Microsoft Fabric

About the role

A growing data team at APM Group in Brisbane is looking for a Data Engineer to build modern, scalable and secure enterprise data solutions. You will help build and support the Microsoft Fabric environment so that reporting, analytics and data-driven decisions work reliably across the organisation. You will work alongside senior engineers, architects, analysts and business stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and support data solutions with Microsoft Fabric, including OneLake, Lakehouse, Warehouse, Data Factory, Dataflows Gen2 and Semantic Models
• Develop and maintain batch and near real-time data pipelines from enterprise applications, APIs, databases, SaaS platforms and cloud storage
• Create data transformations using SQL, Python and PySpark
• Implement Medallion Architecture across Bronze, Silver and Gold layers
• Support Power BI datasets, dashboards and reporting solutions
• Maintain data quality, performance, reliability and security, and keep data lineage, documentation, mappings, runbooks and technical standards up to date
• Assist with platform modernisation, migration and continuous improvement, and provide troubleshooting and root cause analysis
• Work with business stakeholders to turn their requirements into practical data solutions

Required profile

• Experience with Microsoft Fabric and modern cloud-based data platforms
• Strong SQL and data modelling skills, and experience building data pipelines and integration solutions
• Knowledge of Lakehouse, data warehousing and analytics concepts
• Experience with Python and/or PySpark, and exposure to Power BI, semantic models, DAX and reporting
• Understanding of data governance, security, access controls and compliance
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities

Required skills

• Highly regarded: Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL and Azure Data Factory
• Highly regarded: enterprise data platform or cloud transformation projects, Microsoft/Azure/Fabric certifications, database performance tuning, automation and Infrastructure-as-Code
