Cyber Security Operations Manager

About the role

Snowy Hydro is seeking an experienced Cyber Security Operations Manager to direct and oversee its daily cyber security operations across IT and operational technology (OT) environments. Supporting the Head of Cyber Security, you will lead a team of security specialists, incident response engineers and analysts, optimise detection engineering and automation, manage major security incidents and work with risk and resilience teams on BCP/DR tabletop exercises. The role bridges technical operations and senior executive leadership, with flexible working arrangements and collaboration across Snowy Hydro teams.

Key responsibilities

• Manage daily SOC monitoring, detection platforms and incident triage across critical IT and OT environments, and act as Incident Manager during major incidents, covering containment, executive briefings and root cause analysis.
• Drive optimisation of detection logic, threat intelligence integration and automated SOAR playbooks to lower MTTD and MTTR, and stay ahead of emerging threats such as AI-related vulnerabilities.
• Partner with Risk and Governance teams on regular BCP/DR tabletop exercises and response playbooks.
• Oversee MDR/MSSP vendor performance, service levels and operational handoffs.
• Lead and mentor a growing team of 4-5 direct reports.
• Track SOC metrics and KPIs and prepare strategic briefs for senior management and the board.

Required profile

• Proven leadership of a modern SOC or technical incident response team in an enterprise setting (banking, critical infrastructure, utilities, transport, FMCG or consultancy).
• Deep practical experience across SIEM, EDR/XDR, SOAR, threat intelligence and network detection.
• Calm, decisive crisis leader with experience commanding major incident responses.
• Ability to explain technical complexity clearly to executives and stakeholders.
• Relevant certifications (e.g. CISSP, CISM, GIAC) or a degree in Cyber Security, Computer Science or IT are highly regarded; practical enterprise experience is prioritised.
