Cyber Security Engineer (NV2 Clearance)

About the role

An Australian technology company serving the defence, government and national security sectors is looking for an experienced Cyber Security Engineer in Canberra. You will lead the design, implementation and governance of cybersecurity architecture across complex defence-grade environments, working with engineering and operational teams to keep networks, platforms and on-premises infrastructure secure, compliant and resilient. The role supports Authority to Operate (ATO) requirements through security controls, risk management and compliance aligned to Australian Government frameworks.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain secure cyber architectures in classified and mission-critical environments
• Implement security controls aligned to the Australian ISM, Essential Eight and other compliance frameworks
• Develop and optimise security solutions across Linux infrastructure, networks, cloud platforms and enterprise systems
• Integrate security requirements into system design, engineering lifecycles and deployments
• Automate security processes via scripting, orchestration and infrastructure-as-code
• Deploy and manage SIEM, endpoint protection, vulnerability management and monitoring platforms
• Conduct security assessments, vulnerability analysis and remediation, and support accreditation and assurance activities
• Work with software, infrastructure and DevOps teams to embed security-by-design
• Engineer identity, access management and privileged access solutions
• Analyse security events, investigate issues and evaluate emerging technologies

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Cyber Security, IT, Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience
• CySSP or equivalent cybersecurity certification; additional certifications highly regarded
• 6+ years of cybersecurity experience in defence, government or critical infrastructure
• Australian citizenship with the ability to maintain an NV2 security clearance
• Ability to lead security initiatives and communicate with stakeholders

Required skills

• Strong Linux administration and network security
• Cloud security with AWS, Azure and/or GCP
• Security automation and monitoring tools such as Ansible, Splunk, Tenable, SIEM platforms, AV solutions, ACAS, Anchore and SonarQube
• Knowledge of the Australian ISM, Essential Eight and accreditation processes
