Cyber Security Architect (EL1)

About the role

A federal government client is looking for a Cyber Security Architect (EL1) to support cyber security compliance, assurance, accreditation and governance across enterprise and project-based technology initiatives. The role has a strong technical writing and documentation focus, covering Microsoft cloud environments such as Microsoft 365, Microsoft Entra ID, Azure, Microsoft Fabric and Microsoft Purview. It sits within the CIA Firearms Licensing Project's delivery and assurance objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Provide cyber security architecture and design guidance for Microsoft Azure and Microsoft cloud environments.
• Lead security architecture reviews and assessments for new and existing solutions.
• Develop and maintain security architecture standards, patterns and design guidance, and embed security requirements across project and system lifecycles.
• Support security risk assessments, accreditation activities and Authority to Operate (ATO) processes, and identify risks, architectural gaps and remediation strategies.
• Collaborate with project teams, architects, engineers and service providers to deliver secure cloud solutions.
• Contribute to cyber security governance, compliance and assurance, and prepare architecture documentation and briefing materials for stakeholders.

Required profile

• NV1 security clearance or above; tentative start date 14 December 2026.
• Demonstrated experience designing and securing solutions in Microsoft Azure, including identity, network, platform and data security.
• Experience conducting security architecture reviews, threat assessments and risk assessments for cloud solutions.
• Experience supporting Commonwealth Government, intelligence, law enforcement, national security or other highly regulated environments.
• Relevant tertiary qualification and/or industry certification (e.g. CISSP, CISM, CCSP, Security+).

Required skills

• Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Purview and Microsoft 365 security.
• Cloud security, identity and access management, networking and data protection.
• Security guidance aligned with the Australian Government Information Security Manual (ISM), PSPF and Essential Eight.

Work is based in Canberra, hybrid (3 days in the office, 2 days from home), 40 hours a week, on a 3-year contract (12 months initial, 24 months extension). The recruiter offers a referral incentive of $1000 per successful referral.
