Senior React AI Developer (EL1) - Canberra

About the role

A Federal Government client is seeking an EL1 React AI Developer through Peoplebank, a talent solutions provider. This is a long-term contract based in Canberra, ACT, with flexible hybrid working arrangements. Only candidates meeting the stated criteria will be contacted.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, test and maintain modern web applications using React, TypeScript and contemporary frontend engineering practices.
• Work with business analysts, designers, architects and backend teams to deliver high-quality user experiences and integrated digital solutions.
• Build accessible, secure and maintainable applications aligned with organisational standards.
• Use AI-assisted software development tools to speed up implementation, testing, troubleshooting, documentation and delivery.
• Take part in code reviews, testing, CI/CD processes and continuous improvement.
• Help build reusable components, design systems and shared frontend capabilities.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience building modern web apps with React, TypeScript and frontend practices.
• Knowledge of component-based architecture, state management, API integration and responsive UI.
• Experience delivering accessible digital services and applying accessibility standards.
• Experience with source control, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines and modern development practices.
• Experience using AI-assisted tools for development, testing, debugging, documentation and delivery.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and teamwork skills.
• Must be an Australian citizen and able to obtain and maintain a Baseline Security Clearance.

Desirable

• Experience with TypeScript, API-driven architectures, component libraries and cloud-native platforms.
• Experience with specification-driven or AI-augmented development approaches and agentic development tools.
• Experience in government, regulated or highly governed environments.
