Criminal Law Solicitor - ATSILS Mount Isa

About the role

ATSILS Mount Isa is looking for an experienced Criminal Law Legal Practitioner passionate about social justice. As one of Queensland's largest legal practices, the role offers extensive court work across a variety of courts, including youth jurisdiction. The office provides conscientious, culturally safe and ethical representation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and conduct summary and committal hearings in youth and adult criminal jurisdictions
• Attend mentions and callovers, make bail applications (including Supreme Court bail if required) and present submissions on sentence mitigation
• Take part in circuit court, after-hours and weekend and public holiday rosters as required
• Give efficient legal advice and minor assistance across the legal spectrum, documenting services in the prescribed way in the database

Required profile

• Admitted as a Legal Practitioner in Queensland with a current Practising Certificate (eligible for immediate acquisition)
• Holder of, or eligible for immediate application of, a Queensland Government Blue Card before starting
• Current driver's licence and willingness to drive for work
• Ideally at least two years full-time post-admission experience, resilience with complex cases and culturally sensitive service skills
