Crew Member - Gas Mains Field Work

About the role

Service Stream is looking for an experienced, proactive Crew Member to join its Energy-Gas team in Clayton, Victoria. The role covers a variety of field construction and maintenance work on gas mains and services, reporting to the Operations & Maintenance manager and contributing to the wider utilities unit.

Key responsibilities

• Excavate and trench using hand tools or machinery
• Lay pipe, joint it, wrap it and install valves and fittings
• Assist with under-pressure drilling, tapping and live gas connections
• Backfill, compact and restore sites, including lawns, footpaths and roadways
• Operate and maintain tools, plant and equipment safely, following all safety procedures and wearing correct PPE
• Work to plans, drawings and job instructions, and assist with pressure testing and purging of mains and services
• Complete time sheets, job reports and basic field notes
• Support gas meter refits and relighting of customer appliances
• Take part in toolbox talks, site inductions and team briefings, and respond to after-hours callouts and on-call rosters if required
• Maintain professional relationships with customers, contractors and the public, and look after company tools, equipment and vehicles

Required profile

• Previous experience operating mechanical equipment within a gas industry
• Completion of a Mains and Services Certificate 3 or equivalent (desirable)
• Ability to plan and organise work to meet quality standards
• Strong communication skills and a strong commitment to a safe working environment
• Willingness to take part in after-hours duty rosters and emergency call-outs

Required skills

• Ability to read and interpret drawings
• Gas industry field work experience
