Crane Operator - Major Works Shutdowns

About the role

Rio Tinto is seeking multiple Crane Operators to join its Major Works team, supporting shutdown and major maintenance activities across its Pilbara operations. This is a permanent position with an 8/6 FIFO roster, working alongside a team focused on safety, collaboration and continuous improvement. You will operate a range of lifting equipment and help deliver major shutdown and maintenance events safely and efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Report to the Supervisor Cranes and promote safety and compliance with Rio Tinto standards and procedures.
• Operate Franna cranes, slew cranes and larger mobile cranes during shutdown and maintenance activities.
• Perform lifting activities in line with lift plans and site requirements.
• Assist with rigging duties and use safety systems and tools to protect yourself and others.
• Work with maintenance, operations and contractor teams to execute planned work safely.
• Assist with shutdown and breakdown response activities as required.
• Contribute to continuous improvement and safe work practices.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience operating mobile cranes in mining, shutdowns, construction or heavy industry.
• High Risk Work Licence with relevant crane operating tickets and current Rigging ticket.
• Experience operating Franna cranes and slew cranes.
• Ability to work in a shutdown and maintenance environment.
• Australian HR class driver's licence; MC licence desirable.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Required skills

• Forklift licence.
• Helpful: experience with cranes of 130T to 300T capacity, MC driver's licence, basic SAP, large-scale shutdowns, mining experience, lift planning and working with contractors.
