Courts Media Officer

About the role

The Courts Media Officer works in the Courts Media Unit, which manages media enquiries for the NSW Local, District, Children's and Coroners Courts. The unit is a small, collaborative team with strong working relationships with court staff, the DCJ Communications Branch and media statewide. The role suits a journalism or communications professional wanting to move into the justice sector.

Key responsibilities

• Provide media and issues management support for the Courts Media Unit
• Manage complex court-related media enquiries and prepare media responses and briefings
• Liaise with journalists, court registries, judicial staff and internal stakeholders
• Support accurate, lawful and timely media engagement across the courts
• Use sound judgement on sensitive and high-risk matters and escalate issues to senior team members when required

Required profile

• Background in journalism or communications
• Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, judicial processes
• Ability to work autonomously and use sound judgement under significant deadline pressure
• Strict confidentiality regarding sensitive court matters
