About the role

The Department of Justice and Community Safety's Strategic Communication unit is looking for an Adviser, Media. The role helps people understand justice, safety and the law in Victoria by writing clear media content on issues that affect people's lives, such as justice reform and emergency management. It is an ongoing, full-time position earning $100,894 - $114,476 per year plus superannuation.

Key responsibilities

• Research and write media releases, speaking notes and other content
• Promote key policies and programs through the media and respond to media enquiries
• Track news coverage and prepare reports showing how the department's work appears in the news
• Review content for publications, events and public updates
• Work with senior staff, ministerial offices and other teams to share accurate information and support key events

Required profile

• A tertiary qualification in journalism, public relations or another communications field is desirable but not essential
• Experience handling media enquiries and working with local and city news outlets
• Knowledge of Victorian Government and department media rules and processes
• Ability to think clearly, solve problems and give honest advice when issues change
• Flexible, team-focused approach, strong writing skills and ability to plan work and build trust
