Container Solution Architect

About the role

DXC Technology is seeking an experienced Container Solution Architect for its federal government account, based in Adelaide, Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne. This enterprise-level technical leadership role reports to the Account Chief Architect and designs, architects and leads the implementation of enterprise-scale containerised solutions across complex distributed environments, serving as the technical authority on container strategy in line with federal compliance requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Design and architect enterprise-wide container strategies and roadmaps aligned with federal government standards and compliance requirements
• Lead solution design for containerised applications across business units, establish architecture standards and patterns, and evaluate and recommend container technologies and tooling
• Serve as technical lead on container platform and cloud modernisation projects, mentoring engineering teams and promoting platform engineering practices
• Lead cross-functional teams, provide governance for container deployments and act as primary reviewer of container solutions
• Design Azure container solutions, AKS deployments and cluster management, including governance, security policies and alignment with Azure Landing Zone standards
• Manage container registry strategies, image security, networking, storage and security architectures on Azure
• Drive migration from traditional infrastructure to containerised solutions, including hybrid and multi-cloud strategies aligned with Australian Government security frameworks (ISM, PSPF, Essential Eight, IRAP)
• Evaluate OpenShift as an alternative or supplementary platform and ensure interoperability between Azure-hosted and on-premises containers
• Implement container security, including image scanning, runtime security, access controls and Zero Trust principles using Microsoft Entra ID and Managed Identities
• Set orchestration, monitoring, logging and observability standards, runbooks and disaster recovery procedures, and build CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation

Required profile

• 10+ years of IT architecture and infrastructure design experience, 7+ years hands-on with containerisation technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
• 5+ years of enterprise architecture in large-scale, multi-team environments and 5+ years of cloud architecture
• 3+ years of hands-on experience with Azure and AKS; demonstrated experience leading technical teams and architecture initiatives
• Experience designing solutions for federal government environments or equivalent regulated industries
• Australian citizen eligible for Australian Government Baseline Security Clearance; NV1 eligibility highly desirable
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field (or equivalent professional experience)

Required skills

• Expert-level Azure Cloud Services and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)
• Advanced Kubernetes administration and architecture, container orchestration and microservices design
• Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, ARM templates, Bicep); container registries and image management
• CI/CD pipeline design, cloud networking, security and compliance architecture
• OpenShift experience is a plus; familiarity with service mesh technologies (Istio, Linkerd) is preferred
