Construction Lawyer / Associate (Front‑End)

About the role

Maddocks is seeking a front‑end Lawyer/Associate with 2‑4+ years post‑qualification experience to join its large Victorian Construction and Projects team in Melbourne. You will work with a diverse client base, including government agencies, local and international contractors, and principals.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review, negotiate and advise on construction contracts, consultancy agreements, side deeds and project deeds.
• Provide legal advice to a wide range of clients across sectors such as education, social infrastructure, housing, renewable energy, healthcare, transport and water.
• Contribute to business development activities and mentor junior team members.

Required profile

• Currently working as a transactional/front‑end lawyer in a construction or projects team, either in private practice or in‑house.
• Strong technical legal ability and drafting skills with a genuine interest in construction and infrastructure.
• Client‑focused approach with an understanding of commercial drivers in the industry.
• Independent thinker, quick learner and able to contribute ideas.

Required skills

• Experience drafting and negotiating construction‑related documentation.
• Knowledge of construction law and project finance concepts.
