Compliance Officer

About the role

Meander Valley Council is seeking a Compliance Officer to join its Development and Regulatory Services department in Westbury, Tasmania. The role covers a wide range of compliance and regulatory matters, including investigating complaints, undertaking inspections, helping customers understand their responsibilities and working toward practical compliance outcomes. It combines field work, investigation, customer engagement and regulatory responsibilities, and is based at the Council's office in Westbury, about 25 minutes' drive from Launceston. The position is offered on a full-time basis, but applicants interested in negotiating part-time arrangements are encouraged to apply.

Key responsibilities

• Investigate complaints and gather evidence
• Undertake inspections
• Help customers understand their responsibilities and work toward practical compliance outcomes
• Prepare clear and accurate records and correspondence
• Work independently and contribute to a multidisciplinary team

Required profile

• Practical, organised and confident working with a range of regulatory and compliance matters
• Sound judgement, strong attention to detail and the ability to interpret and apply legislation fairly and consistently
• Comfortable managing difficult or sensitive situations professionally and working constructively with customers
• Relevant experience or qualifications in compliance, regulatory services, building, planning or a related area would be highly regarded

The annual base salary is negotiated within the range of $87,469 to $95,574, plus 12% superannuation and the option to choose extra salary or extra superannuation under the Council's Enterprise Agreement 2025.
