Community Visit Volunteer – Garden Chats & Kitchen Stories

About the role

HammondCare, an independent Christian charity supporting people to stay in their homes, is looking for a kind and compassionate volunteer to spend time with a person who enjoys cooking and gardening and would like some social interaction. Visits are simple and relaxed, focused on companionship and friendly conversation. The scheme is part of the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme funded by the Australian Government.

Key responsibilities

• Chat with the person you are matched with, who has a keen interest in cooking and gardening.
• Look through family albums, play board games and listen to music together.
• Occasionally go for a gentle walk in the sun.
• Provide regular visits of about one hour, between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Sunday.

Required profile

• Aged 18 or older.
• National Volunteer Police Check arranged and paid for by HammondCare.
• Willingness to commit to one-hour visits for 6 months or longer.
