Communications Officer

About the role

We are seeking an experienced and adaptable Communications Officer to join the Public Information and Corporate Affairs branch of DBCA. The role is based in Kensington and will support the department’s mission to promote biodiversity, conserve ecosystems and connect people with nature.

Key responsibilities

• Generate positive media coverage and manage reactive media enquiries, including contentious and emerging issues.
• Develop high‑quality communications content for media releases, social media and digital channels.
• Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including media representatives and partner organisations.
• Create and issue community safety warnings during bushfires and other department‑managed incidents.
• Participate in the branch’s after‑hours media roster, covering weeknights and some weekends.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in journalism, public relations, government or corporate communications.
• Proven ability to work under pressure on diverse projects, set priorities and meet concurrent deadlines.
• Experience in understanding and managing contentious communications issues.
