Communications Adviser

About the role

We are seeking a Communications Adviser to lead the development and delivery of compelling communications that showcase the impact of marine science research and enhance the reputation of the Western Australian Marine Science Institution. The role will translate cutting‑edge research into engaging stories for diverse audiences.

Key responsibilities

• Produce feature articles, news stories, digital content, publications and multimedia products that highlight research outcomes.
• Collaborate with researchers, partners and stakeholders to turn complex scientific information into accessible, audience‑focused narratives.
• Manage and update website, social media channels and content management systems to maximise reach and engagement.
• Monitor audience analytics and adjust communication strategies to improve impact.
• Provide strategic communications advice across a complex stakeholder environment.

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary qualification in communications, journalism, media or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Extensive experience in journalistic writing, storytelling and content development for varied audiences.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including interviewing and translating technical information.
• Proven ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and deliver high‑quality outputs.

What we offer

• Full‑time fixed‑term contract for 12 months, with potential extension to 2029.
• Base salary $104,243 – $115,661 per annum plus 17 % superannuation.
