Commercial Officer

About the role

Amentum is recruiting a Commercial Officer to join the Commercial team at the Air Warfare Systems Project Office (AWSPO), which manages acquisition and sustainment programs for Royal Australian Air Force combat and trainer aircraft. The role works under limited direction, supports existing team members and acts as a point of contact for commercial inquiries. It is based at RAAF Base Williamtown, near Newcastle, NSW.

Key responsibilities

• Support commercial elements of the capability lifecycle, including procurement planning, tendering, contract formation, contract management and contract closure, in line with legislation and procurement policies.
• Provide assistance for procurement policy, technical, commercial and financial investigations and other requirements supporting contract development and management.
• Apply experience to product and project teams to deliver quality procurement documentation such as templates, schedules, correspondence, reports, submissions, plans and strategies.
• Collaborate with entities such as Materiel Procurement Branch, Financial Investigative Services, Commercial and Financial Analysis, Defence Finance Group and Defence Legal on compliance and commercial risk.
• Respond to complex enquiries and contract development issues, identifying alternative courses of action where needed.
• Build and sustain relationships with AWSPO executives and team members.
• Draft the procurement schedule and key planning documents such as Smart Buyer documentation, Endorsements to Proceed, Intellectual Property Needs Analysis and Liability Risk Assessments.
• Assist with Commonwealth and AWSPO conflict of interest and probity policies, including probity plans and engagement of a Probity Adviser.

Required profile

• Active NV1 security clearance.
• Ability to work independently with limited direction and to liaise with stakeholders at all levels.
• Desirable: resilience in a demanding, fast-paced environment, strong defence writing and communication skills, stakeholder engagement, prioritisation and adaptability.
