Clinical Nurse – Paediatric Intensive Care Unit

About the role

The Queensland Children’s Hospital (QCH) is seeking an experienced Clinical Nurse to join its Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). The role provides advanced, autonomous nursing care for critically ill children, supporting complex clinical interventions and contributing to a high‑performing multidisciplinary team.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver 1:1 nursing care for intubated or seriously ill paediatric patients, including burns, trauma, spinal injury and cardiology cases.
• Provide 2:1 care for patients on Extra‑Corporeal Life Support (ECLS) or haemodialfiltration therapies.
• Monitor and manage post‑operative patients after cardiac, renal, liver transplants and neurosurgery.
• Participate in the Medical Emergency Team, Paediatric Trauma Team, Code ECMO and Code Stroke responses.
• Support the Paediatric Retrieval Service in collaboration with Children’s Health Queensland Retrieval Service.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with current registration in Queensland.
• Demonstrated experience in paediatric critical care or intensive care settings.
• Ability to work autonomously and provide clinical leadership within the team.
• Commitment to inclusive practice and cultural safety, especially for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Required skills

• Extra‑Corporeal Life Support (ECLS) proficiency.
• ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) knowledge.
• Paediatric Intensive Care expertise.
• Haemodialfiltration therapy experience.
