Civil Surveyor - South Australia

About the role

McMahon Services is looking for an experienced Surveyor to join its Civil & Infrastructure team in South Australia. This is a hands-on, autonomous role involving field set-out, data capture and processing, and close involvement in project delivery. Projects span the state, so regular regional travel and working away from home is part of the job.

Key responsibilities

• Independently plan and complete surveying activities to support project delivery
• Carry out site set-out for earthworks, roads, drainage, utilities and structures
• Undertake topographic, as-built and drone surveys
• Operate GPS/GNSS equipment, total stations and other modern survey technology
• Use the Tiny Surveyor Robot to support efficient set-out
• Capture, process and manage survey data
• Develop and maintain 3D models for survey and machine control, and upload them for GPS-controlled plant
• Troubleshoot machine control and model issues, and verify set-out against project specifications and tolerances
• Work directly with Project Managers, Engineers, Supervisors and plant operators
• Maintain survey equipment, records and quality assurance requirements

Required profile

• Minimum 3+ years' surveying experience in civil construction
• Degree or Diploma in Surveying, Geomatics or a related discipline
• Sound understanding of civil construction surveying principles and 3D modelling for machine control
• Ability to work autonomously, prioritise field requirements and solve problems
• Willingness to travel and work away on regional projects
• Current driver's licence and White Card, with Police Check and DCSI clearance or willingness to obtain

Required skills

• GPS/GNSS and total station operation
• Survey software such as 12d, Civil 3D, Trimble Business Centre or AutoCAD
• Preferred: drone surveying experience or accreditation, Tiny Surveyor Robot, and troubleshooting survey models and GPS-controlled plant
