Chief Governance, Risk & Research

About the role

Mercy Community, a Catholic not-for-profit providing residential aged care and community services for families and young people, is seeking an experienced Chief Governance, Risk & Research for its Nudgee office. Reporting directly to the CEO, the role leads governance, risk, compliance, assurance, continuous improvement and research, working across aged care, families and young people.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and oversee clinical and corporate governance frameworks, policies and processes aligned with legislation, regulation and organisational objectives.
• Advise the Board, Board Committees, CEO and executive team on governance obligations, accountability and effectiveness.
• Provide governance, compliance, risk and assurance information to support Board and executive oversight.
• Own the business continuity and disaster recovery framework, and maintain enterprise risk registers and reporting.
• Conduct or oversee risk assessments, gap analyses and scenario planning, and monitor legislative and regulatory changes.
• Oversee compliance frameworks, lead governance of policies and procedures, and set up monitoring of policy implementation through internal controls, audits and reviews.
• Design risk-based assurance systems, coordinate internal audits and provide assurance to the Board, executives and regulators.
• Oversee learning from significant incidents and complex complaints, and embed improvement actions.
• Lead research governance, establish ethical and risk controls for research, and build partnerships with universities and research institutions.

Required profile

• Postgraduate qualification in governance, risk management, business, finance, accounting, research or a related discipline (desirable).
• Experience leading governance, risk and research functions.
