Chief Engineer – Luxury Hotel

About the role

Minor Hotels is launching NH Collection in Sydney and seeks an experienced Chief Engineer to lead engineering and maintenance operations from pre‑opening through ongoing service. Reporting to the General Manager, you will ensure the property meets the highest standards of safety, efficiency and guest experience.

Key responsibilities

• Lead all engineering and maintenance activities, overseeing preventative programmes, repairs, refurbishments and capital projects.
• Ensure compliance with fire, health, safety and statutory regulations through regular inspections of guest rooms, public areas and plant rooms.
• Manage engineering budgets, payroll, operational expenditure and project costs while driving energy and water sustainability initiatives.
• Supervise external contractors and service providers to guarantee quality, compliance and value.
• Coach and develop a high‑performing engineering team and support pre‑opening readiness planning.

Required profile

• Proven senior engineering leadership in premium or luxury hotel environments.
• Strong technical knowledge of building systems, asset management and maintenance operations.
• Experience managing compliance, safety, budgets and capital projects.
• Formal qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (highly regarded).
• Hands‑on leadership style with excellent problem‑solving and stakeholder communication skills.
